"Finding" Steve Perry Part 3

>> Thursday, January 14, 2010

The insane amount of response for this campaign to find Steve Perry has only fueled me to continue! I have a couple of leads and I am starting to feel closer. It could just take one email or one phone call! Last night i fulfilled a dream of mine to record a Journey song. I recorded "Open Arms" for 3 reasons...

1. It has been a life long dream of mine to record a Journey song and I wanted to do it while I am still young enough to hit those insane notes.

2. It is a perfect love song, and I love love.

3. I am hoping it will get our campaign more attention.

When I say "our" campaign I really mean it. The out pour of emails has been amazing. I am so lucky to get to see how one person can affect your life. We should all take it upon ourselves to touch people in some way over the course of our lives. Here are a few snippets from emails I have received regarding Steve:

"Steve seems to have written a tapestry of my life and many others"

"...if you ever do catch up with Steve please tell him that his albums, his music, and youtube have kept me going for 3 years, and hopefully winning my battle against cancer"

"when you find him and get to speak with him, please tell him how much he is appreciated and missed by so many generations and please thank him for sharing his mesmerizing voice and music with all of us"

One of the most heartfelt emails I received was from a couple who has a physically impaired son. here is the original email, with their names omitted:

I have a 5 year old special needs little boy. He is hearing impaired and visually impaired. Thankfully, he is not deaf or blind, and does have some vision and hearing. He didn't really talk until he was 3 years old and didn't walk until he was 4. I always loved Steve Perry's Journey and solo work when I was younger. After the birth of my son and after all of his surgeries and diagnoses around 5months old - they didn't think he would be able to see or hear at all. I remember sitting rocking him late at night....crying and thinking of his future and what he would be missing out on.....just feeling like I had died. The radio was on, Steve Perry's Don't Stop Believin' came on......and just catapulted me back to a time when I didn't have a care in the world. I had forgotten how his voice just made you feel something uplifting/magical. His voice will always be completely mesmerizing. It made me cry more and then smile....I started pulling out my old Steve Perry music and played it all of the time. ( I call it Steve Perry's Journey etc. because as talented as the others were and are, Steve Perry put them on the charts. His one and a million voice sold the music and while I get that he may have been difficult to work with maybe because of ego and perfectionism, it worked and it was all about the music.)

About a month later, we noticed that our son seemed like he was "seeing" something and seemed to be hearing better then what had been diagnosed. From the start he loved music and song, and I would sing to him about everything.....

Fast Forward---after playing SP's music all of the time at home and in the car, my husband bought me SP's concert DVD's. When Joey was around 3, we heard him singing something and couldn't figure out what it was for the longest time. Finally, we recognized the tune of "Lights". He had the tune, but singing in his own words, and a little off key.....Well, now he asks for Steve Perry and sings parts of Lights, Wheel in the Sky, Don't Stop Believin', Oh Sherrie, Don't Fight It and some others, but we can't recognize the words of the other songs. He will ask, "Wan watch Steve Perry?" to watch his concert dvd. Joey sits there literally mesmerized by his voice.

Isn't this amazing? He will listen to some Led Zeppelin and The Who (his dad's favorites) but after one or two of their songs asks for Steve Perry......

The man needs to know how blessed he was with that voice and talent, and how blessed I feel to have his voice touch/reach my son and for the chance of my son to experience his magic. His voice has left an imprint on so many lives and will continue to do so. His voice and music remain timeless. Please thank him for me. If he ever comes back to us, I will be in the front row somehow with my son!

I thought this was really sweet and just a couple of the millions of people Steve has touched and entertained.

I have been getting a lot of emails regarding Steve's personal life and whereabouts. This information is not helpful unfortunately because I am not interested in his private life, nor will I go to the recording studio where he is allegedly recording his new album (even though it is VERY close to my house, in the city where I grew up LOLOLOLOL). I am interested in meeting my idol and having an opportunity to share our appreciation for him. Of course, I would LOVE to interview him.

Thank you all for keeping this alive on Wikipedia, Steve Perry and Journey fan sites and everywhere else that it is getting attention.

I will post "Open Arms" for you hopefully in about a week.

The Fruit Salad Show returns in February! Stay tuned for AMAZING guests!

Don't Stop Believin'!

Finding....Steve Perry (Part 2)

>> Wednesday, November 18, 2009

WOW, such response! SO many of you have responded to me regarding Steve, thank you for the mass amount of emails! I have read every one and apologize if I haven't gotten back to you yet, but well, mass amount.....! While I haven't yet spoken with him, I still have hope and feel closer to reaching our goal! Thanks to all of you who reached out and shared my appreciation and admiration for this brilliant musician. I appreciate hearing the stories about how he affected your lives and I hope to share those stories with him eventually. I would, however, like to clarify a few points:

1. I am not doing this to find out what "happened" to Steve Perry.

2. His personal life is just that. I will not ask him questions about it, as it is none of my business. For those of you who aren't familiar with our show, we aren't in the business of
putting people on the spot.

3. Again, this is not necessarily for an interview, although that would be a dream come true for me. This is to meet one of my idols and a person who influenced my desire to be an entertainer. Also, I PROMISED Eden that it would happen one day! (see "Finding...Part 1)

4. I will not go to his favorite restaurant to find him, though, if one of you is correct, it IS right near my home in the San Fernando Valley. This was probably my favorite email. Hilarious.

A big thank you for those who choose to keep things respectful. Thank you to everyone who is helping to fuel our search. I can tell you this....I have interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment and I am rarely nervous to meet someone. I definitely will be should this happen! I think when you meet someone who you credit for a big part of the soundtrack to your life it can be a little daunting!

We have not found Steve Perry yet but we still have hope and we are getting closer. Hopefully "Finding....STEVE PERRY (Part 3)" will reveal good news!

If you can contact or if you ARE Steve Perry please email info@fruitsaladshow.com

OH I TOTALLY FORGOT!!! Since starting this campaign, it has been announced that Steve Perry (I think I will always call him by his full name) has a new deal with Sony to produce new music! Here is the excerpt from Wikipedia:

Steve Perry has signed a "One-Off" deal with Sony Music to release his forthcoming as yet untitled solo project. The deal is to keep everything "In House" according to a Sony exec; the album will be released on the Columbia label. A possible Greatest Hits DVD may be released after the promotion of the first singles from the new album which Steve plans to shoot Music Videos for. There are no current plans for a tour since the project is still in production.

I hope this is true!

Have a wonderful day and Happy Holidays!

Finding.....STEVE PERRY (Part One)

>> Wednesday, October 14, 2009

spWell, with one successful search under our belt ("Finding Martika"), we have decided to give it another shot. After deliberating over who our next would be, I decided to go with my initial thought...someone who is always in my thoughts, STEVE PERRY.

I have said many many times that I have three favorite singers, Ann Wilson, Eden Espinosa and Steve Perry. I have met Ann, am friends with Eden, and there is a Steve Perry shaped void in my heart. Steve also happens to be one of Eden's faves and I promised her that this year we would have lunch with him. Ummm....I only have a couple more months.

This "Finding..." may be a little different. It isn't about interviewing him. It is about reaching out and telling someone what an impact they have made. Of course if Steve wanted to come on our show he could be our guest EVERY WEEK.

Most people associate Steve with Journey, the amazing band which he fronted for quite a few years. His signature vocals provided the band with their biggest hits and recognizable sound. These songs defined a generation and still resonate today. Can you think of anyone who doesn't know "Don't Stop Believin'" or "Open Arms"? I can't either.

His voice is unmatched.

There are many rumors surrounding Steve and his disappearance from the music scene and out of the public eye. We at the Fruit Salad show choose not to believe anything until it is done or revealed by the person in question.

Has Steve retired? Is he making a new album? Will he tour again?

To me, Steve is iconic, but also approachable. He has a quality that makes you feel what he is singing and invites you to share it with him. As a performer, it is what I hope to achieve as well.

This "Finding...." isn't about an interview. It is about giving my appreciation. Plus, I told Eden we'd have lunch! I hope he eats! And I hope he lives close to L.A. :)

If you have any information on how I can contact Steve Perry or if you ARE Steve Perry, please email info@fruitsaladshow.com.

Here we go!!!!

Pauly Blahgs: Janet / Camera Ready / Weight loss / Whitney

Pauly-Blahgs---Logo Hey Fruit Flies!!!! SOOOO much happening. Marky and I were so happy to be back last week with Ryan O'Connor! He is a wonderful friend and talent. This week we have superstar choreographer Tina Landon who just participated in the much talked about 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. She was standing right next to Janet Jackson!!!! They hadn't performed together in many years. She will be discussing details of that performance as well as her illustrious career.

I don't know that I had ever been as excited for a performance as I had for Janet's MJ tribute and she did not disappoint. Of course, like everyone, I wish it was a little longer, but she didn't have to do it at all! Marky and I decided to be old school and not listen to any gossip or look for any spoilers. We just waited for the show to come on like we used to...back when Madonna and Janet RULED THAT SHOW (my fave VMA's performance was Madonna doing Vogue). I truly feel that Janet honored her brother the best way she could at this time. Let's not forget that with death comes grieving. "Scream" is one of the best videos ever made in my opinion and Michael Jackson is the king of videos. I think the VMA's was a very fitting setting for this tribute. Unfortunately I think the VMA's failed to truly honor him throughout the show. They could have done something spectacular for someone who truly catapulted MTV in to a major network. 'Nuff said.

Marky and I have some on camera stuff coming up and we are really excited. I shoot "Sweatin' to the Oldies 5" next week and we shoot our scenes for "J8ded" with Vida Edit (formerly Martika) in the beginning of October. We can't wait to meet our Ohio Fruit Flies! Stay tuned for other hosting/emceeing things that we have in the works!

Being on camera means being presentable. Marky is very disciplined and maintains a slim and athletic body. meanwhile I have truly let our lifestyle get the best of us and I have been EATING! Richard Simmons has helped me tremendously. Being in his DVD is wonderful, but regularly going to his classes and his reminders to watch what I eat have helped me start my mission toward a healthy, fit body. I am down about 10 lbs so far and i would like to lose another 15. Ok 20. Again, we will be focusing future shows on wellness, health and weight loss...stay tuned.

Whitney Houston has emerged seemingly healthy and happy. Her new CD "I Look to You" topped the charts in it's first week of release. Her appearance on Good Morning America showed us a happier, more vulnerable side. We are left to wonder if her voice is permanently gone or if she was really just tired from being on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Either way the performance was good in my opinion. I got a lot of criticism for saying her voice was "awful" on the show. I stand by it. Even SHE justified her voice being off. I still loved the performance and it was good to see Whitney again. Speaking of Oprah, I watched part one of her interview with Whitney yesterday. I am not sure what to think. I will reserve judgement until part two airs then get back to you guys. What I do know is that I was so distracted by her new speech impediment. It is probably caused by false teeth. A lot of junkies have the same mouth. It seems like it is hard for her to talk. No matter what, we are so happy for Whitney, who was truly a remarkable talent. No voice even compared to hers.

2009 has seen a lot of death, not just with celebrities. Please remember to keep the people important to you close and remember to let them know how you feel about them as much as you can. I want to take this opportunity to tell every one of you how much you have changed mine and Marky's life. Every time you come up to us and say hello it makes us feel so good. When you ask us to take pictures with you we feel so honored. Never hesitate to do that. We will always oblige. Thank you for being so loyal.

Rest in peace Patrick Swayze

xoxo, Pauly

Pauly-Blahgs---Logo Hey Fruit Flies!

I know it feels like we have been M.I.A. but the truth is we have been CRAZY BUSY!

As I tweeted (follow us @FruitSaladShow), about half of our shows will now be dedicated to health, body image, weight loss and wellness. What are your thoughts on this? Any topic suggestions? I have been rehearsing like crazy for "Sweatin' to the Oldies 5" with Richard Simmons. Finally I am seeing weight come off. It has been a struggle the past year. We shoot in a couple weeks and I am really trying to be in ok shape for filming. I wont lie, I am not really doing it totally proper but I am not starving myself either. I also have no problem wearing Spanx if I have to. The director said he wants me to look like that athletic, "sporty" one in the program.....HAHAHAHAHA! Totes not me but I'll represent if it means helping people. I had a dream that Richard "passed the torch" to me and I got to help millions of people for the rest of my life. Richard is truly an icon and a wonderful person. I am lucky to know him and to be a part of this. If you are ever in Los Angeles, I totally recommend taking one of his aerobics classes! 12 bucks!

Marky ran the Disneyland Half Marathon again over Labor Day weekend. He finished in 2:10!!! His goal was 2:30 and I am so unbelievably proud of him. Marky inspires me just as much as Richard! I am always in awe of his consistency and discipline. He even shaved his head and kept a Mickey in the back. I put the pics on our Facebook page (Pauly Marky). He is a true athlete. I ended up being an athletic supporter (pun intended) by volunteering. I ran last year but didn't register in time for this one. I am doing an 8k on Sunday but that hardly compares. It was fun to see all of the runners and cheer them on. I had some very "Bring it On" moments. Congratulations Marky!

MTV has confirmed that Janet Jackson will be participating in opening the Video Music Awards on Sunday. The performance will be a tribute to Michael Jackson. Marky and I have decided not to try and find out any details or watch it on YouTube before the performance. We are gonna be old school and wait for it to come on like we used to do back when the VMA's were so great (hello 1990 with Madonna and Janet)! Secretly I am happy I get the East Coast feed. More news as this develops and possibly a very cool surprise on next weeks show for you guys!

Enjoy your day!

FL Man Blames Cat For Downloading Kiddie Porn

>> Friday, August 7, 2009

kittyporndb9

According to the Sun-Sentinel:

MANMARTIN COUNTY - Martin County Sheriff's detectives didn't buy it when a 48-year-old Jensen Beach man claimed that his cat was downloading child pornography on his computer.

Keith R. Griffin, of the 3600 block of Northeast Jeannette Drive, was charged Wednesday with 10 counts of possession of child pornography after detectives found more than 1,000 child pornographic images on his computer, according to a news release.

Griffin told detectives he would leave his computer on and his cat would jump on the keyboard.

When he returned, there would be strange material downloaded, the release states.

Griffin was being held in the Martin County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Maybe the cat was actually looking for kitty porn?
